Restoration of Icons from original Church, circa 1916 |
|
In the process of investigating our parish's history during our recent centennial anniversary, the centennial committee discovered a trunk containing the apostle icons that graced the upper-level of the iconostas in our original church. The six oil paintings on canvas feature two figures each on 20" x 40" panels. Although they incurred crease and paint damage as well as smoke and varnish discoloration, Trinity Artisans, an art restoration firm in Mountaintop PA, has verified that they can be fully restored and preserved. The cost of the multi-step refurbishing process is $500 per icon. At this time all six icons have been sponsored When completed, the parish council has agreed to place them permanently on the walls of the crying room in our (new) church. The hope is to have them completed and placed in the church by Pascha 2013. These one hundred year old icons are a living testimony and tribute to our parish and its faithful founders.
